An important, heavy precision hunting case “Patent Chronometer, series III” with Fasoldt’s patented coaxial double wheel lever chronometer escapement, Circa 1870. 18 Carat gold case, engine turned, à goutte, tiered, opaque and translucent polychrome enamelled monogram “THM”, engine turned band, case maker punch mark “EH” (E. Humboldt), hinged gold rimmed glazed cuvette, slide lock for stem, allowing stem to double as key. Dial is enamel, radial Roman numerals, sunk seconds, signed: “C. Fasoldt Patent Chronometer Albany N.Y.”, blued Breguet hands. Bridge movement, rhodium plated, ground, blued screws, signed, “Pat. Feb. 1.1859 / Apr. 5. 1864 / Mar. 7. 1865”, train with six armed wheels, Fasoldt’s patented double wheel lever chronometer escapement, escape wheel with large locking and small impulse wheel, gold screw compensation balance, Fasoldt’s patented special form fine adjusting device.
