Silver tortoiseshell verge watch by Edward Prior
–
An English silver, enamel, coral and tortoiseshell triple-cased verge pocket watch made for the Ottoman market, circa 1817-1818.
An exquisite timepiece, the watch boasts a full plate movement, verge escapement, chain and fusee, and a three-arm steel balance. The white enamel dial is adorned with Ottoman numerals and steel fleur-de-lys hands, adding a touch of elegance to the design. The silver outer case is a work of art, beautifully engraved and adorned with a coral stone. The intricate Ottoman-style decorations not only enhance its aesthetic appeal but also protect the timepiece. The initial inner case is made of silver and embellished with tortoiseshell, along with studs as decoration. This adds an extra layer of protection and style to the watch. The third case is made of silver and has a polished finish, complementing the overall design.
The watch is signed on both dial and works by EDWARD PRIOR from LONDON.
