The dial of this watch has clearly been designed for marine use with its bold numerals, large subsidiary seconds and well-defined minute ring. Loomes, in Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World, lists William Goffe as active between c.1800 and c.1825. Falmouth being a relatively important port must have given Goffe the potential for access to a broad clientele. Goffe is listed together with some of his watch numbers and dates by Tony Mercer in Chronometer Makers of the World, revised edition.

Signed: Willm. Goffe Falmouth
