A fine and rare French silver open faced Louis XIV oignon watch, circa 1710. Frosted gilt full plate movement, divided silver Egyptian pillars with fancy capitals, fusee and chain, verge escapement, three armed steel balance, short balance spring, pierced and chased silver cock decorated with inhabited foliage and strapwork, Tompion type regulator with silver scale disc, silver signature scrolls to each side. Gilt dial, white enamel cartouches with black painted Roman numerals, inner white enamel quarter hour ring, the centre engraved with birds and foliage, outer minute track with white enamel Arabic minute cartouches, winding aperture at 3 o’clock and blued steel beetle and poker hands. The case back chased and engraved with a scene of Cybele in a chariot drawn by lions, foliate, swag and trophy border and bezel, square hinge, loose ring pendant. Movement signed.
