A very fine English 20 carat gold pair cased repoussé verge pocket watch, made by William Threlkeld, circa 1729. Frosted gilt full plate movement with square baluster pillars, fusee and chain, worm and wheel set-up, verge escapement, three armed steel balance with flat balance spring, pierced and engraved silver cock, silver regulation dial. White enamel dial with Roman numerals, outer dot minute divisions, fifteen-minute Arabic numerals and original finely pierced gold hands. Repoussé outer case, decorated with a scene of Diana and an attendant with cupid holding a basket of flowers in an arcadian landscape, within a rococo cartouche, border decorated with shells and birds, bezel decorated to match, the inner case polished, silver dust cover.
Movement signed, the inner case with London date letter only for 1729-1730.
