A fine and rare Swiss 18 carat gold hunting cased quarter repeating verge pocket watch, circa 1830. Matte gilt movement, Ø 42 mm, fusee and chain, verge escapement, plain three-arm balance, flat balance spring, pierced and engraved continental cock with a faceted red endstone, a silvered regulation dial, repeating on gongs activated by depressing the pendant. A gilt metal dust cap. Polished case, fluted band, the front decorated with an applied gold flower and foliate wreath, a central applied shield engraved with the initials EEJ, the back is set with a glazed hair work panel depicting an urn beneath a willow tree and the date 16 April 1831, an applied flower and foliate border to match the front cover. White enamel dial with Arabic hours, an outer minute track, a winding aperture at 2 o’clock and a pierced gold hour hand. Dial, dust cover and movement signed, case numbered.
