Silver inking cylinder chronograph with register by Patek Philippe

A rare, interesting Swiss silver keyless inking cylinder chronograph with 60 minute register, circa 1891. Sold on January 31, 1916. Gilt brass ½ plate movement, cylinder escapement, plain 3 armed gold balance, blued steel flat balance spring, index regulator, stem winding in one direction only. White enamel dial with 60 seconds Arabic chapter calibrated to fifth of a second, 60 minute register at 12 o’clock and typical pointer hand with ink bowl at the end and discharging pointer. Polished case, push button at 1 o’clock for start/stop, and at 1 o’clock for return-to-zero. Dial and movement signed, case numbered. Accompanied by the Extract from the Archives.

This watch is a fine example of the final development of the inking chronograph, invented by Rieussec in 1821 and perfected by Fatton for Breguet in 1823. Patek Philippe made a very limited number over a span of about 15 years, between 1877 and 1892.
