Rock crystal skeletonized lever dress watch

An extremely fine and elegant Swiss rock crystal, platinum mounted and diamond set keyless lever skeletonized pocket watch made by Ulysse Nardin in Le Locle, circa 1920. The case and dial by Plojoux, Genève. Nickel silver movement with 19 jewels, a straight line lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance with all adjustments, blued steel Breguet balance spring and an index regulator. Matte silver dial with applied platinum and rose cut diamond set Roman hour numerals, outer applied platinum dot minute divisions, the center with a visible movement, and original platinum and rose cut diamond set spade hands. The case made from a single piece of rock crystal, faceted on the edges, a rose cut diamond set platinum band and the bow decorated to match. Dial and movement signed, dial further signed Plojoux Genève.

This watch represents the ultimate early Art Deco elegance. During this period, rock crystal cases were popular, a trend started by Cartier. This watch goes a step further by skeletonizing the movement to enhance the effect of the crystal’s transparency.

M.A. Plojoux was established at 30 Rue du Rhône in Geneva. A high precision watchmaker specialized in complicated watches and jewellery. He received two awards at the Paris Universal Exhibition in 1878, won a gold medal in 1880 and took part in the Geneva National Exhibition in 1896.
