A very fine, rare and large French silver and 18 carat rose gold montre de souscription pocket watch with ruby cylinder escapement, circa 1803. Sold to Monsieur Valego, 11 Prairial, An 10 (June 1, 1803), for 600 Francs. Gilt-brass movement, souscription calibre with central barrel wound from the front or back, overhanging ruby cylinder escapement, three-arm gilt balance with amplitude limiting pin on the upper rim, pare-chute on the top pivot, blued steel flat balance spring, bimetallic temperature compensation curb on the index regulator. White enamel dial by Borel, secured by a screw, Breguet numerals, outer divisions for the five minutes, quarter and half-hours, secret signature below 12, original blued steel souscription hand. Case by Joly, polished with gold rim and bezel, flat band, loose ring pendant. Dial and movement signed, case with Joly punch mark.
