A very fine French 18 carat gold and enamel open faced verge pocket watch, circa 1780. Hinged, frosted gilt full plate movement with flared cylindrical pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement with micrometric potence adjustment, brass balance with flat balance spring, pierced foliate chased continental cock with polished steel endplate, silver regulation dial. White enamel dial with Roman numerals, outer dot minute divisions with five-minute Arabic numerals, winding aperture at 2 and original gold Louis XVI hands. Louis XVI case, the back decorated with a painted on enamel scene depicting Peace holding out an olive branch and Plenty with flowers at her side in an Arcadian landscape, the bezel and border chased with stylized leaves. Dial and movement signed.
