Silver and red lacquered verge in pair cases by Michl Gfrerer

A fine and large Austrian silver and red lacquer pair-cased verge watch with painted dial and paste-set movement made for the Eastern market, circa 1830. Gilt-brass full plate movement, the backplate set with 17 faceted red pastes and with foliate engraving, fancy ringed pillars, fuse and chain, verge escapement with micrometric potence adjustment, three-arm brass balance, flat balance spring, continental balance cock, silver regulation dial. Small white enamel dial with Roman numerals, outer minute track, outer border polychrome painted with a scene of a King enthroned in his palace, the sun above and stars below on a blue ground, original pierced gilt hands. The outer case lacquered in imitation of tortoiseshell and with pique decoration, polished inner case. Signed on the dial plate edge.
