Gold and enamel pocket watch set with pearls
–
A fine and rare, large Swiss 20 carat gold, enamel and pearl-set open faced verge pocket watch with an outer glazed protective case, circa 1780. Gilt-brass full plate movement with cylindrical pillars, Ø 43 mm, fusee with chain, verge escapement with micrometric potence adjustment, plain three-armed brass balance, gilt-brass continental cock with polished steel endpiece, silver regulation dial. White enamel dial with Roman hours, outer dot minute divisions and Arabic five-minute numerals, later blued steel Breguet hands. Louis XVI case, the bezel is chased with a repeated pattern and with applied rope-twist decoration, the back with an oval polychrome enamel scene of two maidens releasing doves at the altar of love, an opalescent pink sky background, an outer matte gold border with champlevé enamel leaves and set with pearls, the outermost border decorated to match the bezel. Dial signed, movement signed and numbered.
