Gold eight-day going keyless lever by Agassiz

A fine, rare and thin Swiss 18 carat gold open faced eight-day going keyless lever pocket watch with power reserve indication made for G.W. Fairchild & Sons Inc., Bridgeport, Connecticut, circa 1920. Rhodium-plated movement, Geneva striping decoration, 21 jewels, a straight-line lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance with eight adjustments, blued steel Breguet balance spring, swan-neck micrometre regulator and eight-day power via an additional wheel. A hinged gold cuvette. White enamel dial with dauphine numerals, outer minute track, power reserve indication at 12 o’clock, subsidiary seconds at 6 and original blued steel Breguet hands. The polished case with a semi-concealed hinge. Dial, case and movement signed.

Agassiz Watch Co. S.A. was founded in 1876 and specialized in high-quality watches. A new calibre was designed based on regular 19”’ watch movements, smaller in diameter and as slim as technically possible. The firm designed entirely new and even thinner movements: first 17”’- 24/12th, then 20/12th and 17/12th. Later, Agassiz merged with Touchon & Co., Geneva, which specialized in very thin movements.
