A very fine and rare English 18 carat gold and enamel Neo Classical verge pocket watch probably made for the Irish market, circa 1770. Enamel painting attributed to a pupil of Moser. Gilt brass full plate movement, square baluster pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, three armed balance, flat balance spring, silver regulation dial. White enamel dial with upright Arabic numerals, outer dot minute divisions and star five minute divisions and original gilt Louis XV hands. Case entirely chased, the back decorated with a finely painted en grisaille scene of three putti weeping by a flower filled urn, white enamel dot frame, the border decorated with translucent royal blue enamel foliage and green enamel shamrock, blue and white enamel geometric pattern border, the bezel decorated to match. Movement signed, inner case with maker’s mark IW for John Ward.
