Gold open faced key winding verge watch
–
A fine English 18 carat yellow gold open faced pocket watch with grisaille enamel miniature painting, made by Cabrier in London, circa 1770. This watch has a mechanical key winding fire gilded brass movement with a verge fusee escapement, an intricately pierced and chased balance cock decorated with scrollwork, and a silver regulation disc signed Cabrier. The white enamel dial features elegant black painted Roman numerals for the hours, outer minute tracks with Arabic five minute numerals from 5 to 60, and ornate blued steel beetle and poker style hands, signed Cabrier, London.
–
The timepiece is housed in an exceptionally fine 18 carat solid yellow gold open faced pair case. It features a bezel decorated with geometric engraving and a reverse back cover finished in a classic oval grisaille enamel miniature painting depicting a neoclassical scene with figures, framed by a white enamel beaded border over a rich royal blue enamel ground with gold foliage scrolls, and a sturdy round suspension bow.
