Rose gold hunting cased repeating lever chronograph by Le Phare

A fine and large Swiss 14 carat rose gold hunting cased quarter repeating chronograph keyless lever pocket watch, circa 1910. Frosted gilt movement, 17 jewels, straight-line lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance, blued steel Breguet balance spring, index regulator, repeating on gongs activated by a pusher in the band, silent centrifugal governor. Gold hinged cuvette engraved with exhibition prize medals. White enamel dial with bold Arabic numerals, outer minute track and fifths of a second divisions, Arabic five minute/seconds numerals, subsidiary seconds and original gold Louis XV hands. Polished case. Cuvette signed and numbered.

The company Le Phare was founded as Guye & Barbezat, the founders were Charles Barbezat-Baillot (1847-1938) and Henry Guye (1838-1877). In 1888, the firm’s name was changed to Le Phare, being the registered name of their complicated watches. In 1900, Barbezat-Baillot advertised their brands that year as: La Locloise, l’Esperanto, Le Phare, Tempora and La Volapuk. Barbezat-Baillot was a member of the jury at the Brussels Universal Exhibition in 1897 and at Liege in 1905.
