Gold cylinder watch with independent dead centre seconds by Amaury

A fine and rare French 18 carat gold open faced two train cylinder pocket watch with independent dead centre seconds, circa 1819-1822. Frosted gilt movement, 12 jewels, two train with standing barrels, ruby cylinder escapement, six leaf flirt attached to the escape wheel pinion for driving the dead centre seconds, three armed brass balance, flat balance spring, index regulator. Hinged gilt metal cuvette engraved with the technical details. White enamel dial with Breguet numerals, outer minute and seconds divisions, original gold Breguet hour and minute hands, steel centre seconds hand. Engine turned case, bolt at 4 o’clock for start and stop of the centre seconds, with French marks for 1819-1822. Dial and cuvette signed.

Independent dead centre seconds. In 1776, in Geneva, Moise Pouzait invented the independent dead seconds mechanism in which the movement has two trains. One is conventional and the second has a sweep seconds hand that can be stopped without stopping the main train.
