A very fine and rare Swiss 18 carat rose gold open faced minute repeating oval button split-seconds chronograph keyless lever chronometer pocket watch with instantaneous 30-minute register and precision balance, circa 1910. Rhodium-plated movement, Geneva striping decoration, 36 jewels, a counterpoised straight-line lever escapement, balance and escape wheel pivots with gold caps, cut two armed bimetallic compensation balance with gold temperature adjustment screws, blued steel Breguet balance spring with a terminal curve, swan-neck micrometre regulator, visible chronograph mechanism, repeating on gongs activated by a slide on the band. A hinged gold cuvette. White enamel dial with dauphine numerals, outer minute track and concentric fifths of a second chronograph divisions, Arabic five-second numerals, subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock, 30-minute register at 12 and original black steel spade hands. Polished case, the back engraved with a foliate monogram, a co-axial start/stop/return-to-zero chronograph button in the crown, split plain seconds button at 11 o’clock. Dial, case and cuvette signed.

This watch is very high quality and in good condition. The balance is a cut bimetallic type with a large gap in the laminae so that it is in effect a two-arm ‘Z’ balance of chronometer type. There are no mean-time adjustment screws and the gold temperature screws are grouped towards the centre of the balance arms. The present timepiece was evidently made as a precision watch, which is unusual in combination with repeating and chronograph because any complications can adversely affect the timekeeping of the watch.
