Gold tourbillon watch with chronometer escapement by Ignaz Ruziczka
–
A fine and rare Austrian gold open faced one minute tourbillon watch with chronometer escapement and réaumur thermometer, circa 1840. Gilded ¾ plate movement, signed by Ignaz Ruziczka in Vienna, features a spring detent chronometer escapement mounted on an unusual crescent shaped carriage with screws around the perimeter. It includes a bi metallic compensation balance with two large curved sliding weights, a blued steel helical spring, and a fusee and chain. The backplate is decoratively engraved with scrolling foliage. The white enamel dial, signed Iz Ruziczka in Vienna, displays Roman numerals, an outer minute ring, subsidiary seconds, and a sector for a Réaumur graduated thermometer marked for Wärme & Kälte, and with spade hands.

The gold case has an engine turned back and a heavily chased and engraved band featuring flowers and foliage. The pendant and bow are similarly decorated. The case back is marked with INV and 1840 within a cartouche, while the gold cuvette is engraved with movement details and filled with white, light blue, and green opaque enamels.
