–
A rare and large Austrian silver open faced quarter repeating cylinder pocket watch, probably from Salzburg, circa 1816. Very fine and very rare Breguet-type (free) cylinder escapement, repeating the hours and quarter hours, an extravagant balance with very fine balance weights, temperature compensation and an early shock absorber. Gold dial with black Arabic hours in white enamel cartouches, outer minute division and steel Breguet hands. An engraved scene depicting a mountain lake on the case back, a cord band and plain front bezel, case maker’s signature X. Schwer Salzburg. Numbered under the dial and dated 1816. Comes with the, probably, original key.
