Silver pre-balance spring watch
–
A very fine and rare Austrian astronomic, silver pre-balance spring small coach watch with moon phases, age and aspect of the moon, alarm and single hand., circa 1650. Gilt brass full-plate, tapered baluster pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement, three-arm steel balance without spring, pierced balance cock engraved with flower scrolls and with small foot secured by a screw, steel worm and wheel regulation with foliate pierced feet, silver regulation disc with Arabic numerals. Alarm train with foliate pierced spring barrel, striking with an anchor-shaped hammer on a bell in the back of the case. Case with deep body pierced and engraved with naturalistic flowers and foliage, polished bezel, pendant with loose ring.
Silver and gilt brass dial, the silver chapter ring with radial Roman numerals, half-hour markers and inner quarter hour track, inner rotating silver alarm disc engraved with a diagram of the aspects of the moon, the outer edge with Arabic numerals for the alarm, applied with two fixed steel fleur-de-lys pointers for the age of the moon and alarm. Single steel hand. Movement signed.
