A very fine, rare and unusual Swiss 18 carat rose gold and enamel open faced cylinder watch with visible paste set balance, crescent and star symbol made for the Turkish market, circa 1820.
Gilt finished ruby cylinder movement, unusual large regulator. Hinged gilt cuvette. Small eccentric enamel dial with Turkish numerals, surrounded by a gold and turquoise enamel scene depicting a starry sky, crescent to the left, star to the right, centred by a circular aperture revealing the paste set four arm balance representing the moon, the enamel dial representing the earth. Engine turned case. Case numbered, cuvette signed.
