A very rare and early English silver pre-balance spring verge watch, the case in form of a seeded rose, circa 1640. Gilt finished verge movement, chain fusée, finely chased, engraved and pierced floral decorated balance cock and foot, steel two armed pre hairspring balance wheel, worm set up, silver regulation dial. Silver dial with engraved and blacked Roman numerals, fleur-de-lys half hour divisions, single blued steel hand, centred by a chased and engraved floral Tudor rose, outer chased and engraved floral decorated border. Chased case in form of a seeded rose, polished floral and foliage decoration in high relief, the reverse centred by a Tudor rose, seven piece hinged bezel with four overlapping extensions holding the crystal, seven piece hinge, swivel pendant. Movement signed.
