A rare American 14 carat gold open faced keyless lever pocket watch with Montgomery dial, circa 1912. Nickel finished lever movement, 23 jewels, bimetallic compensation balance, micrometer regulator. Gold cuvette. White enamel dial with Arabic numerals, outer calibrated black Arabic numeral minutes track with red Arabic five minute divisions, sunken subsidiary seconds and blued steel spade hands. Chased and engraved case, the back cover with polished central zone, engraved leaf motif to the rim, the front cover and band with engraved geometric design. Dial and movement signed by maker, case stamped Gruen National Watch Company, case, movement and cuvette numbered.
