Gold hour striking and repeating musical watch by Piguet & Meylan

A rare Swiss 18 carat gold, enamel and pearl set two train hour striking and repeating musical cylinder watch made for the Chinese market, circa 1820. Keywound gilt finished movement, cylinder escapement, plain three armed brass balance. Gold cuvette decorated with flowers in blue enamel within a white enamel floral border. White enamel dial with Roman numerals and blued steel serpent hands. Pearl set bezels, the band decorated with champlevé enamel with gold foliage, lever in the band at 1 o’clock for activating the music, silent/music lever at 11 o’clock protruding through the cuvette, hinged case back with painted polychrome enamel scene depicting King Arthur and Emmeline holding a mirror belonging to her attendant Matilda where she sees King Arthur’s reflection, the pendant with translucent dark blue enamel and the bow similarly decorated and set with pearls. Case and cuvette numbered, movement stamped PM for Piguet & Meylan.
