Gold open faced verge pocket watch

A fine and rare Swiss gold, painted-on enamel and paste-set quarter repeating pocket watch, circa 1780. The back with painted enamel riverside scene with fishermen in the foreground, a blue and varicoloured enamel border, a paste-set thumb-piece, a band engraved and decorated with champlevé enamel flowers, bezel set with pastes. White enamel dial, radial Roman numerals, outer minute track with large five-minute Arabic numerals and paste-set elaborate hands. A hinged, frosted gilt full-plate movement with tapered pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, brass balance with flat balance spring, continental cock with a blued steel end piece, repeating on a bell in the back of the case activated by depressing the pendant. Dial and movement signed.
