A fine, rare and unusual English 18 carat gold quarter repeating pair cased cylinder watch with additional gold and enamel outer case, circa 1733. Gilt finished cylinder movement, chain fusée, finely pierced and engraved balance cock and foot, plain three armed steel balance, diamond endstone, repeating on two hammers onto one bell, gilt metal dust cap. White enamel dial, Roman numerals, outer Arabic five minute divisions, blued steel beetle and poker hands. Inner case with finely pierced scroll and floral and ‘Green Man’ mask decorated band, silent repeat push piece (lacking) underneath the blank bezel, gilt pinwork decorated leather covered gilt brass outer protective case, additional gold case with inlaid dark blue enamel Greek key decorated bezel and rim, chased edges, engine turned reverse with blue enamel initials ‘HW’, repeating through the pendant. Inner case stamped ‘WW’ and with London date letter for 1733, movement and dust cap signed and numbered, additional case stamped ‘DA’.
