An important German gold hunting cased quarter repeating pocket watch in quality 1A, circa 1882. This exceptional timepiece features an 18K pink gold Renaissance hunting case, crafted in the style of Prof. Graff, with matching number 17298 for the case and movement. The dome is adorned with exquisite floral engravings and bears the signature of the buyer, Wilkens & Danger Bremen. The movement is visible through the glazed dome. It boasts a precision lever movement of the highest quality (1A), with a gold lever, gold escape wheel, diamond endstone, and the ability to chime the hours and quarters. The original champlevé dial, signed by A. Lange & Söhne, displays Roman numerals for the hours, outer minute divisions, and a subsidiary seconds dial, all complemented by rare filigree steel hands. The watch is in good working condition and is housed in an antique watch box with a compartment for papers (papers are no longer available).

This watch is a collector’s item from around 1882 and is of museum quality. It is a pocket watch with a Graff Renaissance case and has a repeater, which is exceptionally rare. The condition of the watch is fantastic, especially considering its age, with only the bow showing signs of wear from the chain.

Professor Carl Ludwig Theodor Graff was appointed as the director of the Institute of Applied Arts in Dresden, also known as Dresdner Kunstgewerbeschule, in 1875. He was responsible for creating designs with a similar style. As time went by, more and more elaborate decorations were being created at Lange & Söhne. The medallion on these watches showcased the image of the ancient Roman goddess Minerva, who was worshipped as the goddess of crafts, poetry, and wisdom. Professor Graff copyrighted his design which had won first prize in the 1890 competition for the design and decoration of pocket watch cases at the Institute of Applied Arts.
