Silver open faced pocket watch
–
An early, extraordinary double cased verge watch with mock pendulum and rare relief depictions, P. La Montagne Amsterdam, circa 1740. A silver pair-case, typical Dutch verge movement with glazed relief bridge, kidney-shaped window for the mock pendulum, rare detail at the edge of the window, blued hands with finger pointing to the mock pendulum, relief of a naked lady with mirror, in the background the sun, relief at the rim inscribed “EEN IS GENOEG- One is enough!”, lavish Rocaille on the main plate, main plate signed and numbered, verge escapement, original signed Champlevé silver dial, central again the naked lady with a waving cloth, on it again the inscription, blued steel hands, intact, cleaning recommended. The detailed version of this watch is very rare, but typical for some verge watches around 1740/50 with Amsterdam and Rotterdam signatures.
