Brass coach clock covered with ray skin by Silvestre
–
An interesting, early small French coach clock with alarm, covered with ray skin, and signed Silvestre Paris 1779, probably circa 1760.
Very fine cylinder movement, excellent quality, two barrels for movement and alarm, one barrel wonderfully engraved, fire-gilt plate, signed and numbered 1779. Signed original and well-preserved Louis XV enamel dial with Roman radial hours, outer minutes track with Arabic five minutes numerals, back numbered 1779, probably original hands, and iron hand for the alarm. Brass case covered with ray skin, rim with sound openings, and bell.

The alarm needs overhauling. Glass is missing, and the ray skin is incomplete. This is probably a watch by Joseph Silvestre, master in Paris from 1755 and employee of Julien Le Roy. The movement is of exceptionally fine quality for a coach clock of this period.

Signed: Silvestre a Paris
