Gold enamelled watch set with oriental pearls
–
A large, very fine gold and enamel top quality verge pocket watch set with oriental pearls made by Brown in London, England, circa 1800. This pair cased watch features an open faced and glazed gold plated protective outer case, the inner case is crafted from 18, possibly 20 carat gold, and is covered with fantastically preserved blue guilloché enamel, both bezels are set with oriental pearls bordered by blue guilloché enamel and finally by a fine white enamel ring. The white enamel dial has Arabic hour numerals, outer minute divisions and gold arrow shaped hands. The highly unusual movement differs completely from the known English ones of the same era, is numbered and has a verge escapement. Movement signed.
