Excellently preserved gold deck watch

An excellently preserved gold deck watch with carousel and chronograph in original wooden box, made by Wright & Craighead, Successors of Bracebridges in Clerkenwell London, England, circa 1903. The numbered open faced case of this watch was crafted from 18 carat gold and the white enamel dial has Arabic five minute- and hour numerals, a subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock, a 30 minutes counter dial at 12 o’clock and blued steel hands. The numbered precision lever movement has a carousel escapement and a diamond end stone.
Case and movement have matching numbers and the movement is signed.

Wright & Craighead

The firm of Wright & Craighead was managed by Thomas Daniel Wright and was active around 1900. TD Wright (1847-1933) was an award winning professor and public member of the British Horological Institute. wright & Craighead was known for quality and fine watches. The company also supplied various watches to the British Navy as “Makers to the Admiralty”. Some of these deck clocks came with a carousel device invented by Bahne Bonniksen.
