A fine precision pocket watch, made by the Phillips Brothers in London, England, circa 1856. The numbered, open faced case of this watch was crafted from 18 carat gold is glazed, has an engine turned back lid with a cartouche and monogram in the center and a cuvette with an inscription. The numbered white enamel dial has Roman hour numerals, a subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock and filigree steel hands. The numbered movement features a lever escapement, a chain fusee, a gold balance wheel and a diamond end stone.
The case, dial and movement have matching numbers and the dial and movement are signed.

Phillips
Phillips Brothers was a London based firm founded in 1839 by Robert and Magnus Phillips, initially at 31 Cockspur Street before moving to number 23 in 1855. The company became Phillips Brothers & Son in 1869 when Robert’s son Alfred joined. Known for their revivalist style jewelry inspired by ancient designs, the firm gained prominence and was eventually sold to D & J Welby in 1902.
