Watch with unusual spring detent chronometer escapement
–
An important gold deck chronometer, made by Charles Frodsham & Co Ltd in London, England, circa 1918. The numbered plain case of this watch was crafted from 18 carat gold, has a monogram on the back lid, London hallmarks from 1918 and the case maker’s mark HMF for Harrison Mill Frodsham. The silvered dial has Roman hours from 1 to 12 o’clock, an outer scale with Arabic hour numerals from 13 to 24 o’clock, a large subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock, a power reserve indicator at 12 o’clock and blued steel hands. The numbered movement has an Ád Fmsz’ quality spring detent chronometer escapement with an unusual ‘Duo in uno’ hairspring, a chronometer balance and a diamond end stone.
The case and movement have matching numbers and the dial and movement are signed.
