A fine English 18k gold and enamel pair cased quarter repeating verge watch made for the Ottoman market, circa 1810, gilt full plate engraved movement, pierced and engraved balance cock.
18K Gold, original, double casing, outer housing, gorgeous enamelled, both edges with floral embellishments on the rear enamel plaque with typical Ottoman openings representation of different weapons and flags, the finest Sound, the inner housing is extremely filigree decorated floral that also the finest of tone holes, bell, original, signed and numbered dust cap, magnificently engraved spindle works with extraordinary decoration, a spindle bridge with initials GP for George Prior.
Repetition of hours and quarters on a bell, the Board also signed and numbered, silver regulating disc with Ottoman label, original Ottoman labelled, signed enamel dial in very good condition, probably original hands, in very nice condition, enamel badge, with professionally restored and is not visible hairline cracks, functional, and with a fine sound. This Gold/enamel watch for the Ottoman market are extremely rare. George Prior was one of the two large London-based manufacturers of these fine Gold/enamel watches, which today are very sought after.

George Prior was born in 1782 as the son of English watchmaker John Prior (Pryor, Josephus) John Prior was located in Nessfield, England. He ran a watch factory in London with his brother Edward. The builders George and Edward mainly made spindle pocket watches for the Turkish market. George Prior died in 1857.
