Gold open faced key winding lever watch

A fine English 18 carat gold open faced pocket watch with a chain driven fusee and lever escapement, circa 1830. It has a mechanical, keywound, full plate, fire gilded, brass movement with a chain driven fusee, a lever escapement, a steel balance wheel, and a hand pierced and engraved gilt balance cock decorated with detailed scrollwork. This is protected beneath its original gilt brass dust cap, which has a keywinding aperture. The gilt metal dial is hand engraved across the centre with high relief floral and foliate scrollwork. It features applied Roman numerals for the hours, an outer minute track, an engine turned subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock, and blued steel spade hands.

The watch is housed in an 18 carat solid yellow gold open faced case with an inner protective cuvette stamped with English hallmarks for 18 carat gold and maker’s marks. It is completed by a spherical pendant and a circular suspension bow. (Condition Note: Outer back cover missing.)
