An English ship’s chronometer with 56-hour power reserve, circa 1860.
The case is a mahogany box with brass inlays, applied ivory shield, applied handles, case key, brass gimbals and bowl, and three-body, with lid and glass. It has a signed, numbered, silvered dial with radial Roman numerals, auxiliary seconds, and gold Breguet hands. And a polished, decorated, brass movement with moulded pillars, chain/fusee, spring detent escapement according to Thomas Earnshaw, bimetallic chronometer balance with two screws, two nuts and two movable traps, free-sprung blued helical balance spring, and chatoned diamond endstone on balance.
