A heavy, large English pocket chronometer with spring detent escapement, circa 1822. This watch features a simple silver case with the maker’s stamp WL. The dial is off-white enamel with Roman numerals for the hours, a minute track on the outer rim, a subsidiary dial for the seconds and spade shaped hands. There is a hairline crack on the dial. The watch has a signed full plate movement with chain and fusee, a spring detent escapement in the style of Thomas Earnshaw and a screw compensation balance.
