Decorative gold and enamel verge watch by Matthey & Comp.
–
An English decorative gold enamel verge pocket watch, studded with half pearls and diamonds, circa 1800. This watch features a fullplate keywinding shell movement with a chain/fusee, verge escapement, and a signed silver dial. It has a white enamel dial with Arabic numerals for the hours, a domed glass, an outer minute track marked with Arabic fifteen minute numerals, and a keywind hole at two o’clock. Gold moon hands adorn the dial, which is encircled by a bezel of fine pearls.

The 18 carat gold case is enamelled on the back with a blue guilloché background, centred by a polychrome enamelled flower accented with rose cut diamonds, with the largest diamond at the centre. The entire case is bordered by a frieze of fine pearls. Both the dial and movement are signed, with the pendant numbered. This piece dates from the empire period, 1798-1809.
