Open faced pocket watch for the Chinese market by John Ilbery

An important double-cased English coach clock of museum quality, studded with gems, centre seconds, quarter hour and hour strike, moon age and phase and produced for the Chinese market, circa 1790.
Two cases: Outer case – brass, gilt, bezel studded with gemstones, back very finely decorated with central carved tortoiseshell plate: studded with red and white gemstones, framed by a border of engraved flowers and cartouches; open worked edge with floral ornamentation, pusher with red gem for opening the case, à goutte, large outer hinge.
Inner case – brass, gilt, polished centre framed by a border of volutes and scrolls, open worked edge with floral ornamentation, signed and numbered cap protecting the movement. Rear bell, lever for stopping the central seconds “Go”/”Stop”, lever for muting “Strike”/”Silent”.
Enamel dial with radial Roman hours, centre seconds with stopping device, inner red indicators for moon phase and moon age, blued seconds hand, arrow shaped hand for calendar and gold “Poker & Beetle” hands for indicating the hours and minutes.
Full plate movement, keywind, firegilt, screwed on florally engraved ornaments, signed, with large barrel, 2 hammers, chain/fusee, verge escapement, three-arm brass balance, finely engraved and star shaped open work balance cock and chatoned diamond endstone on balance.
