Extremely rare gold/enamel lady’s watch, signed by Jos. Em(o)ry London hallmark circa 1758, attributed to Joshua Emery (1725 – 1797). An 18K gold, top quality case with 5-part lateral hinge, dark blue enameled, opening button with diamond, English movement, converted to cylinder escapement without fusee, cage with diamond endstone, plate signed and numbered, enamel dial,
roman numerals.

If the “o” in the name is a mis-marking or a conscious modification, which is typical in England, stays open. There are several watches made by Emery with this enamel decoration, extremely rare miniature size. The great watchmaker Josiah Emery, Charing Cross, London (1725-1797) was born in the Swiss canton Vaud. He moved to London, where he became well known by the production of precision watches with cylinder escapement. In 1781, the “Clockmakers’ Company” appointed him as an honorary mem.
