A very fine English 18K gold pocket watch chronometer, made by George Margetts, London (1748-1808), “Longitudinal Watchmaker” , “Master of Horology” since 1779.
18 carat gold case with London hallmarks from case maker William Webb; very fine chronometer movement in manner of Earnshaw with diamond endstone, cylindrical hairspring and screwed gold chatons; very rare solid gold dial with Roman hours, sunk subsidiary dial for the constant seconds and gold hands. Movement signed and matching numbers on case and movement.
