Gold, enamel ornamental pocket watch
–
An English ornamental pair cased gold enamel pocket watch, circa 1779.
The outer case is intricately ornamented with paillonné geometric pattern reminding us of peacock feathers – stylised green leaves, golden spikes and orange dots over translucent cobalt blue enamel.
An 18 carat gold outercase, polychrome enamel, the inner case is also 18 carat gold with case maker’s punch mark “IW”. The dial is enamel, fine full plate movement, chain/fusee, English lever escapement and three-arm steel balance.
