Silver open faced verge watch
–
An extraordinary South German pair-case verge watch with rare half quarter repeater and figurative case “St. Georg kills the dragon”, signed Martin Gailler Burghausen, circa 1760. A silver pair-case, outer case repoussé, excellent quality and rare scene for a pocket watch case of this time, dragon killer St. George, in the background a castle, pierced, richly decorated with Rocailles, inner case also pierced, finely engraved floral ornaments, signed and numbered verge movement with square profiled pillars, rare complication, repeating the hours, the quarter hours and the half quarter hours, screwed enamel dial and probably original red-golden hands, corresponding probably original key, decorated with a lion. German verge watches with eighth repeater from this epoch are very rare. In addition, the watch has a case of exceptional quality.
