Free-sprung gold full hunter pocket watch

An English free-sprung lever in a substantial gold full hunter case, hallmarked Birmingham circa 1876. Gilt three-quarter plate keyless movement with going barrel. Plain cock with diamond endstone. Free-sprung compensation balance with blue steel overcoil hairspring. English table roller lever escapement, screwed in jewelling, escape and lever pivots with endstones. White enamel dial with subsidiary seconds, Roman numerals, and blue steel hands. Substantial plain 18-carat full hunter case. Maker’s mark ‘JR’ in a diamond and number corresponding to that on the movement.

Interestingly the front cover has been replaced shortly after the watch was made. The hour hand is made for a half hunter indicating that the watch originally had a small glass in the front cover but the owner wished to have a full hunter.
