–
An English large gilded metal and enamel pair cased verge watch featuring jumping quarter seconds, moon age and phases, and a visible balance and regulator, made for the Chinese market, circa 1780. The watch features a gilded full plate movement, with the plate engraved overall in foliate scrolls and a verge escapement. It boasts a white enamel dial with an aperture for a paste set visible balance. It has six subsidiary dials indicating hours with Roman numerals, minutes, seconds, jumping quarter seconds, regulation, and moon age combined with phases. There are two cases: a gilded metal inner case with a winding aperture at the back, marked by the case maker FM, and a gilded outer case with a translucent blue polychrome enamel back, its bezels engraved with leaves and flowers.
