Consular pocket watch by Savory, Farrand & Co.

An English, key-winding, gold and enamel consular pocket watch with open face, circa 1790. Probably made for the Chinese market.
Round-shaped, 18-carat yellow gold and enamel case. Imperial green flinqué enamel case back with a radiant motif; case back border and bezel engraved and Vieux-rose (light-rose) enamelled in champlevé with a decoration of friezes. Enamel dial with Arabic radial hours, outer minutes track, and gold spade hands. Full plate, gilded brass movement with fusee and chain, verge escapement, monometallic balance (gilded brass), blued steel flat hairspring, and pierced and engraved gilded English cock. Dial, case and movement signed.

Savory, Farrand & Co., London Joseph Savory was a goldsmith, cutler and jeweller established (1777) at Strand, Golden Fleece, No. 48, near Bow Church, Cheapside. It is followed by the name “Savory, Farrand & Co.” (1782-1809), which became, after 1793, “Savory, Farrand & Sheldrike”.
