Edward Tomlin, English watchmaker
Edward Tomlin worked first at Bartholomew Lane north of St Paul’s Cathedral and later, from 1770 to 1798, at 69 Threadneedle Street, Royal Exchange. He was a member of the Clockmakers Company from 1768 to 1781. In addition to excellent pocket watches, he was also known for his large clocks. One of his bracket clocks is illustrated in Cescinsky & Webster’s “English Domestic Clocks” (London, 1914); two music clocks are in the Peiping Museum, and a cylinder pocket watch is in the Science Museum in Kensington. He was also a manufacturer of “tavern clocks”.
