–
A decorative English gold, enamel pocket watch, studded with pearls and set with diamonds and opal, circa 1790.
The verge movement has a diamond endstone, a silver index regulator, and a pierced and engraved balance cock. The enamel dial features Arabic radial hours, an outer minutes track, and gold arrow hands. The gold case is adorned with pearls on the front and back rims, while the back side boasts engine-turned enamel and silver set with diamonds and opal. The watch was made by the workshop of Wetherell & Janaway, who were active between 1785 and 1794. The maker’s signature can be found on the works, which is engraved with the words Messrs. Wetherell & Janaway 1736, indicating the maker and watch number.
