A very fine English 18K gold and enamel open faced centre seconds duplex pocket watch made for the Chinese market, circa 1830. Two-body, Chinese-type case, the back painted on enamel with a bouquet of roses and flowers, champlevé enamel bezels, pendant, and bow. Gold glazed cuvette hinged to the movement ring. White enamel dial with radial Roman hours, outer minute divisions, Arabic quarter-hour numerals and blued steel spade hands. Mirror-polished, blued steel Chinese calibre movement with steel wheels, bridges and standing barrel, duplex escapement, plain five-arm steel balance, flat blued steel balance spring, index regulator. Movement signed, the case with London prestige marks.
